Alex & Chris – Rustic Tipi Wedding

SEPTEMBER 2019 | DERBYSHIRE

Alex & Chris had a beautiful rustic, tipi wedding in the in an open field next to a river in Derbyshire. They had 71 guests in the daytime and 99 guests in the evening. Alex & Chris are both vegan and so together we planned a delicious plant-based menu. This included canapés, three-course and evening food inspired by Alex’s Grandfather’s recipe for Caribbean Black Bean Stew.

Crafting a bespoke vegan menu

We first met Alex & Chris at the National Wedding Show at the NEC around 18 months before their big day.

Alex & Chris were both vegan and wanted a menu that showcased plant-based dishes to their best for all of their guests to enjoy.

Our co-founder, Marc, is vegan too and so he jumped at the chance to be able to help create a menu that was perfect for Alex’s & Chris’s first meal as husband and wife!

Serving in a rustic, sharing style

The brief was plant-based food that was rustic, sharing and relaxed and made the most of the tipi and theme of the day.

So we crafted a delicious three-course sharing menu that started with tasty canapés by the river and finished with a trio of desserts.  All served on wooden boards and using fresh ingredients prepared by our chefs in the tipi.

All the favourite desserts!

Alex has Caribbean heritage and so we wove this through the wedding breakfast menu and the evening food.

The trio of desserts included a Caribbean Eton Mess and a Rum-soaked Roasted Pineapple with Mango Salsa with Chris’s favourite dessert making up the trio – Apple Crumble!

We set up the kitchen in the tipi the day before.  Essentially we were creating a restaurant in a field and so there was a lot to get ready to be able to cook canapés and three-course for over 70 people the next day.

We worked with the brilliant Sami Tipi to ensure the kitchen tent was right and the power and space all worked fine.

Then the fantastic Cathy Boelle and her team styled the tipi with some beautiful touches to create a rustic, floral display inside and out.
