Top five tips for planning the marquee wedding of your dreams

Outdoor weddings are becoming increasingly popular, with structures such as tipis, Sail cloth and Petal Pole tents at the fore. These outdoor structures are perfect for the couple who desire complete creative control over the aesthetics, location, and suppliers for the most special day of their lives. It is important to remember that outdoor weddings come in all different styles, there is no right or wrong. From boho to rustic, fantasy to elegant, we have seen it all! That, in our opinion, is the real beauty of working from a clean, blank canvas.

At the top of any bride-to-be’s to do list (underneath ‘say yes to the dress’ and Hen party, of course) is venue and catering. These are the fundamentals. Without a venue and without catering, you will have no party location and very hungry, unhappy guests! If you’re struggling with the catering and venue aspect of your wedding, you’re in luck! 1. Location, location, location…

There are so many things to think about when deciding on your venue, but we’d recommend to focus first and foremost on finding somewhere that captures your heart, somewhere perhaps you have a personal connection with and definitely somewhere you can see yourself dancing the night away with your nearest and dearest! We have worked with a range of

venues, from fields to elegant, manor house gardens, and have found your choice of marquee venue very much sets the tone for the overall look and feel of your wedding, so it can help as a starting point to establish what sort of vibe you’re going for.

The main things to think about from a more practical perspective are:

a. does the venue offer a power supply, or will you need to hire a generator (which we can provide by the way!)? Is there enough space for your marquee and a catering tent, along with ample access and parking for guests?

b. Is there a particular aspect of, or view from the venue, you want to focus on?

c. Wi-Fi (is it important your guests can share their thoughts and photos as the day unfolds!?)

d. …and finally, are there any restrictions on timings at the venue that might impact on your plans for the day?

2. Size matters…

Something to think about fairly early on in your outdoor wedding planning journey is which size marquee you’ll opt for. We offer a range of sizes which we’ve chosen specifically so that we can offer settings for both intimate, cosy weddings and big, show-stopping celebrations alike.

Some people prefer the idea of a small bar and dancing area, and some intimate seating areas for eating, while others think much bigger – with chill-out zones in each corner of the marquee, a big bar area and long banquet-style seating for their guests. It’s up to you!

3. Painting your blank canvas…

One of the best things (we think) about opting for a marquee wedding is that you essentially have a blank canvas to work with and fill with beautiful décor and furniture. And guess what? We have lots of that available!

From our rustic trestle tables and oak cross-back chairs, to our hanging lobster pots and stunning floral rings, you won’t be short of options. We also provide chill-out furniture, lots of magical lighting (of course) along with firepits and outdoor seating areas.

It goes without saying that we can also provide your essentials, such as your dancefloor, heaters, cake table etc. We’ve got you covered!

4. The feast…

Arguably one of the most important elements in providing the wow factor, food is such a personal thing, and nothing beats enjoying your favourite foods with your loved ones.

What kind of food works both practically and in keeping with your aesthetic for your marquee wedding? Grazing tables or a sit-down meal? Do you want your guests to help themselves or be served at tables? Have you factored in space for serving staff to manoeuvre?

5. The all-important bar...

Our show-stopping circular bar creates a fantastic focal point in the middle of your marquee for your guests to gather around, or maybe you would prefer a wooden pallet bar with Edison lighting tucked in a corner of the marquee. We offer a range of different bar structures that will work with all types of interior styling and we can even provide staff to work your bar and/or provide the drinks. You have (depending on your venue) total flexibility with how to stock, staff and serve the drinks.

It is always worth talking to your caterers as they may have other bar options to keep your marquee space empty. They may have horsebox bars to hire or, like Caviar & Chips a gin piano (which is as amazing as it sounds!)
