Five tips for planning your perfect wedding breakfast menu

You’ve sorted your venue, wedding dress, guest list, but you still need to organise your wedding caterers and decide on your wedding menu. If you’re a foodie couple, you’ll want to make sure you have the food on your wedding day as perfect as possible. After all, this is your very first meal as a married couple.

Deciding on food for your wedding day can be quite challenging when considering your guests’ dietary requirements, as well as ensuring you newlyweds have exactly what you want on your wedding day (particularly as you’re the ones paying for it)!

Here’s five of our top tips for planning the wedding breakfast menu of your dreams and deciding what dishes are on your guests’ plates.

1. Make your wedding menu personal to you

When you’re deciding on your wedding breakfast menu, it’s good for you to discuss with your partner and figure out what you as a couple both love. It’s important that both of you are happy with your wedding menu, no matter what food you decide.

Before meeting your caterers it might be worth brainstorming a few dishes and ideas of the type of food you would like at your wedding – this will make a starting point of conversation when contacting different caterers. But don’t worry, if you can’t decide or don’t have any ideas then your caterers will help you plan your perfect wedding menu.

Here at Caviar & Chips, we like to start the process with a blank piece of paper and with our amazing chefs you’ll craft your own bespoke wedding breakfast menu. So if you’re struggling for ideas, we can help you along the way and craft a menu specifically for you. Just let us know your likes and most importantly your dislikes and we’ll plan the rest for you.

2. Incorporate your special memories into your wedding menu

As a couple, think about those unique memorable experiences you’ve had together and see if you can incorporate this into your wedding breakfast menu.

If there’s a special meal you’ve had on your first holiday, or on the day of your engagement – you could incorporate some of those feelings or flavours into your wedding food (or drinks). Or you could give a nod to your background, fusing a range of different international flavours can be a fun and lovely touch to your wedding menu. If your heritage is important to you, you could consider including dishes that reflect your backgrounds.

We’ve catered for and crafted wedding breakfast menus paying homage to international foods and flavours. One couple loved the Austrian way of life, food and culture so we created a selection of sharing desserts including Apfelstrudel, Sachertorte, Salzburger and Schaumrollen. Another couple’s menu was inspired by a visit to New York and a restaurant where pasta was served in large bowls at the table, so of course they had big bowls of pasta for their main course. Their guests had the choice of Beef Ragu served with Parppadelle & Herb Crumb, Wild Mushroom, Garlic & Shallot served with Tagliatelle or Mozzarella, Cheddar, Parmesan & Truffle Penne.

3. Taste your wedding for before your wedding day

This is an important one… you wouldn’t buy a wedding dress without trying it on, so why would you book a caterer for your wedding day without trying the food first.

At Caviar & Chips you have the opportunity to have an exclusive menu tasting. This is like a private dining experience where our amazing chefs cook up a few dishes from your draft menu to help you decide on your final dishes for your wedding. This also gives you the opportunity to make any changes to the chef’s recipes so we recreate it exactly how you like it. If you want that little bit extra salt or garlic – no problem! Just let us know, and our chefs will tweak your recipe ready for your wedding day.

4. Choose the right caterer for you

It can be a bit of a minefield when planning your wedding and deciding on suppliers. Depending on what type of food you’d like to be served and what service you’d like them to provide, will all be contributing factors when you’re looking to approach a wedding caterer.

When choosing a wedding caterer, it’s good to consider a few things, so we’ve drafted a few questions for you to consider.

  • Do they have good customer reviews?
  • What type of service do they provide?
  • Do they provide crockery, cutlery, tableware and linen etc?
  • Do they have experience catering for the number of guests attending your wedding?
  • Do they offer a variety of dining choices?
  • Do they offer a range of menu options?
  • Can they provide a bespoke menu?
  • Do they have a team of hosts and chefs to look after you and your guests?
  • When do they set-up and clear away?
  • Are they within your budget?

5. Set a realistic wedding breakfast budget

You as a couple need to decide what’s really important to you in terms of the food and drink on your wedding day.

If you’re looking to have an eight course tasting menu for you and your guests, then maybe you would prefer to have a smaller guest number – but an incredible food experience. Or if you’d prefer to share your wedding day with more guests, then you’ll need to think about your total budget and cost per person for this type of meal. There’s no right and wrong answer to this, it all depends on what you prefer!
